Thinking Out Loud

Thinking Out Loud is a platform I have developed in my role at In-SItu for creating space for people to think and write critically about art and what it means to them in everyday life. As well as writing commissions and making films with  the team, with people who live in the local area and with otters collaborators and professionals, this involves hosting community conversations that bring all of these voices together in one room. Using playful ways to support a round the table conversation where everyone is heard, through people expressing their own ideas and experiences we arrive collectively at a shared sense which might present something new to take forward to the next conversation.

Kill Your Desires

I lead this project with In-SItu in 2021. It started with a conversation with parenting group Mums 2 Mums about time in the local landscape, faith and creativity and together we produced writing about their experience which you can read here. The project progressed with many subsequent conversations, activities and trips, leading to the production of a pop-up exhibition and sharing space at Nelson Library – “A space for those whose responsibility to others shapes their everyday lives”. I worked with the group to create a physical manifestation of the things they had raised in our conversations over a nIne month period. It featured a wendy-house type structure marketing space of inner/outer worlds and between responsibility and domestic life and nature and creativity. Looking through a window from the interior onto a waterfall and a space for creative sharing, drawing on our group visit to Ingleton Falls.I wrote a piece the end this project about the complexities of holding space.
